As a photographer, model and fashion blogger, Ania Boniecka knows her way around the racks. “Topshop, Joe Fresh, Zara and H&M are my go-to places,” she says. “I spend a lot of time shopping.” At 13, Boniecka and her family emigrated from Poland, and it wasn’t long before the leggy brunette was discovered at a model search at the Calgary Stampede. “I’ve always loved the industry, so fashion became a natural place to find myself in.” Her knack for visual expression led Boniecka to the Alberta College of Art and Design, where she studied drawing, and in 2010 she launched her site Aniab.net to showcase her various creative projects and casual-cool personal style. “The more I immersed myself in street style, the more I fell in love with the genre,” she says. “It provides endless inspiration.” This spring, Boniecka’s laid-back look is taking a feminine turn, inspired by runways at Christian Dior, Lanvin and Balmain, where full skirts and high heels were blended with manly basics like biker jackets and grungy jeans. “I love feeling girlie while still being myself in comfortable, livable pieces,” she says. All the better for wearing on her next marathon shopping spree.
