We mentioned earlier today that LG Fashion Week would now be taking place at the Allstream Centre at Toronto’s Exhibition Place. According to a release sent today by the Fashion Design Council of Canada, the organization “requires a much larger canvas to articulate its vision” and that the warehouse at 30 Ordnance Street was a “romantic idea,” but fraught with logistical challenges. How a warehouse is romantic, we don’t know, so we’ll just join the chorus of tweeters who are just happy that there will be proper washrooms.
Along with more seating and a “grandiose” runway, there will be a larger media lounge (yay!) and a boutique, dubbed Get Dressed, that will sell Canadian design.
More scheduling details have also emerged. The somewhat controversial Sunday start date will feature a presentation from IZMA, a fur collaboration from Adrian Mainella and Canadian leather/fur master Izzy Camilleri. After some debate over whether was participating, Evan Biddell is now on the schedule for Tuesday, March 30 a 9 p.m.
In a curious move, the FDCC is taking fashion week to Queen’s Park (the provincial legislature, for you non-Ontarians) for a breakfast with MPPs Christine Elliott and Cheri DiNovo--a move they hope will influence a legislative change that would allow fashion designers to apply for culture grants. And there will be a mini fashion show, so it’s fun!
