These ‘90’s hair accessories are back in style and perfect for fall

Scrunchies, barrettes, bows... dig them out of your hair baskets because they’re back in.

On and off the runways in the midst of the biggest fashion month of the year, it’s apparent that we’re living in a Spice World. And we love it.

Shiny fabrics and neon colours decorate some of the most 90’s accessories we’ve seen in a while, from hip hop inspired bucket hats, big jeweled barrettes and oversized bows that are perfect for adorning your everyday street wear. These styles are a fun blast from the past and they’re here to stay for a while.

Browse some of our favourites below.

Bucket Hats

Designer Anna Sui featured sparkly floral bucket hats on models like Bella Hadid in her Spring/Summer collection at New York Fashion Week. Bad hair day? Throw one of these on you’re golden. Even better: pair with a printed, oversized blazer, your favourite mom jeans and some boots or a sheer slip dress like Sui did.

Scrunchies

Hailey Baldwin is now an Adidas ambassador and it’s possible the mega-brand’s activewear has inspired her scrunchy/high pony phase on Instagram. Even if it hasn’t and Baldwin is just expressing her personal style, we’re into the Sporty Spice vibes she’s giving big time. Wear a scrunchy with: anything. It’s cute AF.

Top Knots

Ariana Grande continues to emulate her little alien friends with top knots instead of her signature mile long pony tail. Scary Spice buns are especially adorable with a baggy, sporty look similar to Grande’s here. Why not wrap them with scrunchies too?

Bows

It’s true - Poppy Delevingne’s giant black bows that she wore in her hair to the Emmy’s are in fact, #hairgoals. They were all the rage in Best Dressed recaps of the night too. A high pony laced with big bows like this gives off an equestrian vibe. Try this style with a casual look for day with knee high boots and a tailored jacket or dress it up for a night out. Don’t forget the statement earrings.

Poor Boy Hat

Let’s get one thing straight: the name of this style of hat has nothing to do with how it looks on. A poor boy hat is the perfect addition to any day look whether your hair is up or down and looks extra adorable with a pair of high waisted jeans and some type of bootie.

Clips

If we had to pick a Spice Girl that these remind us of, it’d be Baby. That’s because no matter the occasion, her trademark pig tails were always decorated with a pair of fuzzy elastics or strewn with glittery clips. On Vanessa Hudgens, jewelled pins help zhoosh up the already sultry evening look she has going on. Try adding some to your next night on the town hairstyle to dress things up.

Head Wraps

Head wraps were a major trend on the catwalks of NYFW just as much as they are on the streets nowadays. Let Rihanna be your inspiration to add one of these to your next sporty look. You can’t hide much under a sheer style like RiRi’s sporting in her Savage x Fenty campaign, but a solid material is an awesome bad hair day disguise for those rainy fall afternoons.
