Each Friday, we’ll be profiling one of our favourite movers and shakers on social media. From the pop-up power of Pinterest to the beautifully crafted images on Instagram, we’re learning the tricks of the trade from the ladies that do it best (and most stylishly, of course).

Danielle Bernstein, the voice behind WeWoreWhat, offers a daily dose of street style inspiration on her fashion-forward blog, whose popularity is only rivaled by her Tumblr, her Pinterest and her Facebook page. Most impressive is her Instagram page, which Bernstein, who has always known she wanted to work in the fashion industry, credits as having enhanced every collaboration that she’s had the opportunity to do. Recent collaborations topping that list include a capsule collection for vintage mecca Nifty Thrifty, a collection of nail wraps for NCLA and partnership with retailer INTERMIX. With over 2,300 posts on her Instagram account, her page is the perfect one-stop-shop for urban, contemporary street style inspiration.

In addition to being a student at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, Bernstein works as a freelance stylist, writer and consultant. Oh and fashion blogger, of course. Bernstein started her blog as an outlet for her NYC street style photography, before turning the cameras around on herself. The multi-tasking fashionista, who describes her style as “more on the edgy side,” may have started out behind the lens but now enjoys being front and centre, citing that she’s glad she made the switch. And her 199,000 (and counting) Instagram followers are too.

We caught up with the trend-setting blogger for our Social Media Star feature.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?
The opportunities, the people, the travel and basically doing what I love. It also doesn’t hurt being your own boss.

Are you inspired by other fashion bloggers? Which are your favourites?
I follow a ton of street style blogs. A few of my favorites are BlueIsInFashionThisYear.com and Carolines Mode StockholmStreetStyle.

Did you always want to work in the fashion industry?
I always wanted to do something in the fashion industry related to event planning. I never expected blogging to become a career.

Working as a stylist must put you behind the behind the scenes often, do you prefer being behind the lens or in front?
It used to be behind the lens but now I definitely love being front and center.

How would you describe your personal style?
My style is pretty versatile but definitely more on the edgy side. Being comfortable is also really important with my personal style.

Are you influenced by current trends?
Id be lying if I said no. Of course I am influenced by the trends designers produce but I always stick to my personal style and won’t just wear something because it’s “in”.

You wear a lot of Nasty Gal and Zara on your blog are those your favourite brands?
I am a huge Zara fan, I always find such great pieces there and wearing affordable clothes is a must for me. But I always like to mix my highs and lows so I try to pair designer pieces with more affordable ones.

You feature lots of your friends on your Instagram, have you befriended other NY bloggers since you started WeWoreWhat?
Duh! We go to all the same events and always get to see each other. And there are definitely a bunch that I’ve become really close with.

What do you think of Instagram as a networking tool? Have you had any opportunities presented to you that you think your Instagram account helped to facilitate?
Every collaboration I’ve worked on is enhanced because of my Instagram. My following has grown so quickly on my Instagram and I think it has made brands want to work with me more.

What advice would you give to aspiring bloggers?
High res images are really important, always try to stay true to your style, and find your niche, something that hasn’t been done before.

Which social media platform is your favourite?
Instagram, obviously!

Do have any upcoming projects that you’re working on that you could share with us?
I have a bunch of exciting projects coming up. Most you will just have to wait and see though!
