See the photos from The Railway Man party »
Despite ultra-exclusive guest lists and top notch security teams, it’s sometimes actually very difficult to catch a glimpse of the stars at TIFF parties. So when I made eye contact with Nicole Kidman—Nicole Kidman!—only moments after walking in the door at SodaStream’s The Railway Man party, a few laps around the venue were necessary before I completely recovered. Held at the very spacious Live at the Hive, Kidman stayed at the centre of the action all night long, looking as graceful as ever but even more animated and excited to be there than you’d expect. (And while her Altuzarra suit was impeccable, it was her prim bow-on-the-toe Louis Vuitton heels that really caught my eye.)
Outside on the patio, Colin Firth was also totally at ease, causing a mass exodus of media to trickle out to capture a “casual” glimpse as he lounged on the patio furniture. Jeremy Irvine also mingled with the crowd, chatting with the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye and then indulging Si Si Penaloza and I in a brief conversation about the Blue Is the Warmest Color controversy. (Fact: Irvine is even dreamier in person than in photos.) And, were there any doubts about Alicia Vikander being the next big thing, her presence inside Live at the Hive washed them all away. She stood out from the rest of the party in a stunning grey-to-black ombré fringed dress in a way that can only be described as having the It that so many rising stars aspire to.
