The fall season has its fair share of stylish events, but when The Room at Hudson’s Bay rolls out its carpet, you generally know that it’s not one to miss. The latest of the retailer’s epic Toronto fêtes was in honour of Thom Browne, the New York-based designer responsible for menswear’s crop craze, Michelle Obama’s inauguration suit and some of fashion week’s most peculiar presentations (to name just a few).
To befit Browne’s penchant for the bizarre, the high-end space was transformed into the world of his Spring 2015 collection: mannequins dressed in all over florals, models walking on stilts and Astroturf carpeting. Floor-to-ceiling digi print wallpaper made for perfect selfie-taking, as guests including make-up artist Veronica Chu, National Ballet dancer Evan McKie and Suits star Meghan Markle snapped shots amidst the faux blooms. Many of Browne’s most ardent fans came dressed to impress, with socialites Stacy Jordan and Stella Alexandru channeling his kooky vibe. As VIPs were whisked off to a private dinner, the stilt-walking performers were given centre stage. They didn’t wobble even once.
