This summer it felt like the wedding bells kept ringing, and ringing, and ringing and, oh you get the picture. It was a big summer for celebrities like Natalie Portman who tied the knot with French choreographer and Black Swan co-star and Drew Barrymore who married art consultant Will Kopelman. Even our favourite Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, locked it down with longtime on and off boyfriend Abe Cohen.

On the long list of summer celebrity weddings, Blake Lively and Anne Hathaway were some of the most talked about. Mouths were agape when it was revealed Lively didn’t wear Chanel OR Gucci when secretly marrying Ryan Reynolds. She opted to wear a custom made Marchesa gown (not too shabby).

In an interview with US Weekly, Georgina Chapman—half of the design duo behind Marchesa—said, “Blake has such innate style. I’ve worked with her so many times and know her so well. We’re friends – it was wonderful to spend time with her. [She] was a creative bride with a very clear vision of what she wanted. She was very involved.”

The gown sounds pretty intricate, it featured a “hand-draped silk tulle bodice adorned with custom crystal and rose-gold embroidery” and of course, Blake Lively paired her custom gown with a pair of custom Louboutins—her go-to shoe designer.

Lively may have asked her friends Marchesa to design her gown, but Anne Hathaway worked some magic and brought Valentino out of his five year retirement to design her dress.

A rep from Valentino told People that Hathaway chose to not wear white on her big day and instead wore a hand painted pink gown as she strolled down the aisle. The strapless dress had a lavish train embroidered with satin flowers and felt very princess-y (she was the star of The Princess Diaries after all…). She matched her dress with an over-the-top veil, which featured a large lace flower and crystals.

And now, with these weddings behind us, we wait and twiddle our thumbs until Jessica Biel and J.T. tie the knot and until Brad and Angie finally make it official (we might be waiting until the end of time).
