Sum visit

Comedian Chris Rock seemed to have a good time while in Toronto recently to perform a stand-up show at Massey Hall. The night before, he enjoyed bottle service at Brant House with some buddies. Following his hilarious gig, he headed back to his hotel, the Four Seasons, for dinner with said pals at Truffles, before moving the party to his suite.

We’ve noticed lately that Canadians have been upping their celeb quotient, with promo tours and nights out. Case in point, rock couple Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley, who came to Toronto last week to help promote Sum 41’s latest album, stopped by MuchOnDemand before heading to Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse for dinner one night. Even though the couple opened the restaurant on a night when it’s usually closed, staff said the twosome was super sweet and acting as if they were on their first date. Later in the week, after the Sum boys made an appearance on CBC’s The Hour, as well as playing a show at Kool Haus, Avril and Deryck held a party at Tattoo Rock Parlour for about 600 of their closest friends.

Another Canadian making noise is Alexisonfire singer Dallas Green, with his second solo disc under the moniker City and Colour. Hilary and Haylie Duff were recently spotted at the St. Catharines-native’s show in L.A., adding some much-talked-about star quality. Green is taking his show to the U.K. this month before heading back to his home and native land to continue his tour.

The Hills star Lauren Conrad was in town for a taping of The After Show, to chat about the second episode of season 3.5. LC was also spotted that same night at Nyood, a recently opened resto on Queen West and the following night at The Guvernment hosting a party, as well as debuting her Lauren Conrad clothing line earlier that day at Holt Renfrew in the Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

Keep your eyes peeled, celeb spotters, for Hilary Swank, who is set to invade Toronto in the next week or two to begin shooting Amelia, a biopic based on the life of Amelia Earhart, due out next year.

Haute Spot: Fashionistas looking to get a taste of a very stylish vodka should head to Pravda Vodka Bar on Wellington Street East. Recently, we were lucky enough to be given a tour of their vodka cooler (much like a wine fridge), where we sampled Roberto Cavalli’s own blend. Like most of his clothes, the vodka was really sexy, and, we’re assuming, comes at a price.
