SNP’s word of the day: You-topia

Word: You-topia

Meaning: A self-fulfilling community based around similar desires/interests/pursuits, not so much class/gender/race.

Usage: "[The economy of everyone is] a burgeoning workface resembling a denatured you-topia where everyone is talented and has the means (and desire) to tell you so.” — Anupa Mistry on the Toronto Standard

You should know it because: Actually, you should just read Mistry’s piece (which, disclosure, I edited) because for once it addresses “our generation” (the Millennials, ugh) from the unique standpoint of... our generation. What she gets at throughout is that the bright side of “Generation Me” self-absorption is a “You-topian” self-reliance. While Urban Dictionary defines you-topia as your own personal heaven filled with everything you want, a better you-topia—Mistry’s and mine—is one filled with things you want to do.
