SNP’s word of the day: Beschamel

Word: Beschamel

Meaning: Hilarious made-up word for the (ex)union of Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard; also sounds like a delicious cheese

Usage: “Bryn Gimmirds and Zoomy! Beschamel broke up??” — the inimitable Richard Lawson on Twitter

You should know it because: In an announcement that sent shockwaves through the urban, yupster, late Gen X, early Gen Y, Prius-driving, Levi’s reissue–wearing, fair trade macchiato–drinking, “alt” sitcom–watching community, Ben Gibbard and Zooey Deschanel said yesterday they were getting un-married. The indie rock hero (best known for fronting Death Cab for Cutie) was largely responsible for making the so-called indie starlet—best known for playing against type (i.e. not being annoying) in Elf—think she could also be an indie musician. Unfortunately, she will be keeping her delusions in the divorce settlement, and her next She & Him album, with M. Ward, will be at your record store any day. It’s called A Very She & Him Christmas. Don’t buy it. (Sorry. I’m still bitter about Thurston & Kim.)
