Sometimes, the Internet can be a wonderful place. After all, it is because of the Internet that a 72-year-old grandmother, who once bore an uncanny resemblance to Scarlett Johansson, will be going out for a drink with the 32-year-old American actress.
Let us explain.
Last week, a 1967 photo of Scarlett’s doppelganger (real name: Geraldine Dodd) was posted on Reddit by Geraldine’s grandson, Joel Dodd (username Denverjoel). Joel aptly captioned the photo “My Grandma Looked Like Scarlett Johnasson When She Was Younger.” For the record, Geraldine was 22 at the time.
My Grandma Looked Like Scarlett Johansson When She Was Younger
According to E! News, Geraldine laughed when her grandson showed her the photo, unable to see the resemblance. What she did mention, however, was she was “drunk as a skunk” in the photo, which sees her and her husband of 54 years, who passed away a year ago.
Despite Dodd scoffing at the comparison, Johansson herself could see the resemblance, thus inviting Grandma Geraldine via a special video message to get drunk with her at premiere of her latest film, Rough Night.
“I have been inundated with e-mails and messages about how much we look alike, so I had to look at the photo myself. Holy crap!" Scarlett says in the vid. “I want to meet you in person. I saw that you were quote ‘drunk as a skunk’ when taking that photo, and I would like to see your drunk face. I want to share a drunk face with you. Let’s have a drink, Geraldine.”
She continued, “I’m going to invite you to...Do you want to come to see Rough Night with me? Be my guest? We’re a bunch of partying girls, so it’s a good running theme, and I’ll cover all your hidden costs. I’ll see you at the bar. Be there or be square!"
As for Grandma Geraldine? She tells TIME she will, indeed, be there.
“I’m not going to be square. I’m going to drink with her [and] see if I can drink her under the table. She has got to remember to take it easy on me. I’m 40 years older than her,” she said.
And, according to Joel, his grandma made the decision fairly quickly.
“In a heartbeat, she said yes. Who says no to Scarlett?" he told TIME.
And that, everyone, is why the Internet is awesome.
