See Rihanna’s style from the beginning »
There’s never a dull moment when it comes to Rihanna’s style. Since breaking onto the scene in 2005, She has transformed from a Barbadian pop princess into the badgalriri that our Instagram feeds now know and love. After dipping a toe into designerdom with Hervé Leger mini dresses and traditional floor length gowns, Rihanna’s style took a turn for the daring upon the release of her 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad, when she ditched her long straight hair for an edgy pixie cut and her style choices followed suit.
But it was 2012 when Rihanna’s fashion choices really went into overdrive. The plunging neckline and thigh-high slit on her Armani dress paired with intricate body chains at the Grammy Awards was a taste of what was to come in the year. With help from her stylish Mel Ottenberg, the superstar favoured custom designer pieces from Kenzo, Adam Shelman and Alexander Wang for her performances on the sky-high spectacle that was her intense 777 tour, which was heavily accessorised with vintage Chanel, and Versace pieces. And without a doubt, one of our favourite Rihanna fashion moments of 2012 is when she shopped Cher Horowitz’s closet and wore a limited-edition rerun of the Calvin Klein Clueless dress.
We’ve grown accustomed to seeing Rihanna in thigh high Tom Ford boots with T-shirts as dresses, bootylicious short and bra top combinations as well as the occasional loungey onesies. There’s nothing that’s off limits when it comes to Rihanna’s style and we just can’t get enough. Rihanna’s fashion choices always keep us on our toes and we can’t wait to see what she wears straight off the runway in 2014. Check back here often as we update our gallery with each of her bangin’ looks because that’s how we ball out.
May 2005: By today’s Rihanna standards, the styling for her first video “Pon De Replay” is pretty rookie. Complete with Victoria’s Secret Pink sweatpants and big hoop earrings, it’s certainly “of the moment.”
