Even though most of us still have the winter blues, there was some fun to be had in Hogtown of late. Britain’s latest sensation, Crystal Castles, who actually hail from Toronto, popped by their hometown for a rockin’ set at Wrong Bar on West Queen West one lovely, chilly evening. Supporting her fellow label mates: Emily Haines of Metric.
The following Saturday night was a bar-hopping extravaganza for this fashionable lady. After meeting up with one of my besties, in town from Montreal, at Brant House, it was over to Jacobs & Co. for some to-die-for dessert. We highly recommend it all–the cheesecake, the crème brûlée and the chocolate cake. Then it was time to dance off those sweet calories, so we chose to get our rock on at Tattoo Rock Parlour, where The Hour’s George Stroumboulopoulos, fresh from taping his show in London for a week, was holding court by the VIP area. Not in, by. So hot! Sunday night we were north of downtown for some dinner at Coquine, the new spot just south of Yonge and Eglinton. Yum!
Ryan Phillippe made a brief appearance in Toronto (we caught a glimpse riding the Queen streetcar home one night!!), co-hosting MuchOnDemand while on the promotional tour for his latest film, Stop-Loss. Wonder if he popped by his old haunt? Rumour has it Lobby was where the beginning of the end of his marriage began. We were also infected one last time with Spice fever, as the girls ended their reunion tour at the ACC. Before the end of course, it was time to party and C Lounge was the place to be, with James Blunt stopping by the Spice Girls soirée, while Victoria Beckham held court at Holt Renfrew the day of their finale to promote her dVb line of clothing and eyewear. Goodbye, my friends! Tear. And, as reported last week, Will Ferrell stopped by MuchMusic to promo his new flick, Semi Pro, and was also spotted filming an interview at the Scotiabank Theatres at Richmond and John.
Luckily for this fashionable girl, that night we were invited to a media event at heaven on earth, Sephora on Bloor Street, who announced they will be opening even more beauty meccas this side of the border. After picking up some goodies, including Cake Beauty Satin Hair and Body Refreshing Powder for dark hues (since we’ve decided to go back to our roots) and cult faves NARS The Multiple in Orgasm and philosphy’s hope in a jar, we headed back down to Queen Street with some of our fashionable friends to the opening of the first Jones boutique in North America. Exclusively featuring all the hottest labels from Denmark, the Jones boutique is cozy, with cute tees and jeans for girls on one side and sweaters and pants for guys on the other. We were impressed with a soft grey, flowy tee, a tank that stated: “I’m dating the drummer,” and the lower-than-expected prices. From what our fashionable eyes saw, shirts ranged from $35-$45 and jeans started at around $100. Queen Street may have just found its latest mainstay.
