The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially in full swing, and that means Olympic athletes are everywhere. In magazines, on TV and now, on our TikTok FYPs. Described by some as the first real “TikTok Olympics,” the Paris 2024 Olympics are arguably the most accessible for viewers in the games’ centuries-long history, with Olympians on TikTok from around the world using the social media platform to share behind-the-scenes content of their Olympics experience.
Scrolling your FYP, TikTok fiends can see everything from diver Tom Daley testing out whether or not the infamous anti-sex cardboard beds in the Olympic Village can actually withstand some rigorous *ahem* exercise and a peek at the Australian soccer team’s questionable Olympics gear, to chic Olympic gear hauls, reviews of the cafeteria food in the village and team celebrations moments after winning gold.
And viewers are absolutely obsessed with having yet another avenue through which to get into — and excited about — the sporting event. With so many pro athletes taking to #OlympicTok, we’ve rounded up some must-follow Olympians on TikTok. We’re pretty much all Olympic athletes after this, right?
The first essential Olympics follow is a big one, but you won’t regret it. That’s because pretty much the entire USA women’s gymnastics team are on TikTok — and they’re all slaying it both on the balance beam and on the Tok. From Suni Lee and Jordan Childs’ TikTok dances in their Olympic leotards, to Simone Biles’ love of TikTok trends, the USA women’s gymnastics team is giving personality, baby!! Their videos feel like something you’d see on your BFFs TikTok account, making us all feel like we’re part of the group chat.
Rugby player Ilona Maher is undisputedly *thee* queen of #OlympicTok. Her videos are a mix of BTS looks at what the athletes are up to during their time at the games — eating in the cafeteria, checking out the gifting suites and just hanging with teammates — and straight-up hilarity. The girl knows her pop culture moments — like just how obsessed everyone is with Love Island right now and that Glee‘s Sue Sylvester will always remain supreme. You can guarantee that an Ilona video is going to be a fun time. Also fun? Maher’s sister Olivia Maher is the creator of the iconic "Girl Dinner" trend. So, you could say TikTok greatness runs in the family.
Olympic sailor Sarah Douglas is making Canada proud in competition and on FYPs. The Canadian athlete’s videos have mostly been from her hotel room, showing off the Canadian team’s extremely patriotic — and dare we say stylish? — kit, courtesy of Lululemon. Come for the swag, stay for Douglas’s ability to poke fun at her game face.
Boxer Tina Rahimi, who’s making her Olympic debut in Paris, should be a follow for both her athleticism and her sense of style. While we’re 100 per cent following along for news on her fights and wins, the boxer — who wears a Hijab —is also serving serious inspo online to other Muslim women for showing up in a space they’re not typically seen. We especially love Rahimi’s video styling her Aussie Olympic scarf with her Hijab — chic!
By now, British diver Tom Daley is pretty much a household name when it comes tot the Olympics. Daley first competed all the way back in 2008 when he was only 14 years old, and has been a staple of the Summer games ever since. In addition to sharing essential analyses of the athlete’s accommodations, the diver is always blessing viewers with equally essential thirst traps of his teammates. Outside the Olympics, you can catch Daley sharing more about his life with his husband and kids, and some great knitting content.
Skateboarding is still relatively new to the Olympics, but it has one of the best vibes when it comes to competition and sportsmanship. That much is clear on skater Keet Oldenbeuving’s videos. Her daily videos showing what she’s been up to in the Olympic Village are like a relaxing ASMR, and it’s fun to watch Oldenbeuving doing what she so obviously loves.
Coco Gauff is one of the brightest stars in the world of tennis right now, so following along with her TikTok videos is like getting a backseat to the life of one of the greats. While Gauff has had a rough go of it at the games so far, the athlete’s hilarious videos with her teammates make it clear that she’s still making the most of her experience.
Is there anything cooler than surfing in the Olympics? Probably not. And Camilla Kemp, a surfer from Germany, is as cool as they come. While the majority of the games are happening in Paris, surfers aren’t riding waves in the Seine, instead competing in Tahiti. Kemp’s videos give viewers a look into the unique — and utterly gorgeous — experience, documenting everything from the floating Olympic Village (it’s #OlympicTok meets #CruiseTok, people!) to the beauty of Tahiti — all while enjoying it with her teammates.
Competing in the Olympics is serious business, but swimmer Henrik Christians’ TikTok videos are anything but. Christians’ content has little to do with any actual swimming, and more to do with his love for the infamous chocolate muffins available in the Olympic Village (apparently it’s a known thing). We’re tuned in.
