Olympians descend upon Vancouver’s Omega boutique to celebrate the London Games while being ogled by mere mortals sipping champagne

With the London 2012 Olympics kicking off this Friday, Omega (official timekeeper of the Games since 1932, FYI) warmed up for the big event by hosting a British shindig at its downtown Vancouver boutique. The English-inspired evening included faux—yet no less unflinching—Queen’s Guards posted at the entrance and better-than-mum-ever-made Yorkshire pudding appetizers whipped up by Hawksworth Restaurant.

Our slice of the Commonwealth was also well represented, with Canadian super athletes on hand. Local golden girl (golden as in Vancouver 2010 ski-cross gold medalist, and, well the hair too) Ashleigh McIvor brought her boyfriend Jay DeMerit, captain of the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team. A 10.0 dive into the gene pool for those two. Other Olympians in attendance included five-time Olympian Charmaine Crooks, track and fielder Gary Reed and 2008 Beijing rowing gold medalist Jacob Wetzel, who brought his Olympic bling along with him.

The rest of us mere mortals threw back champagne, admired the new Seamaster 1948 Co-Axial London 2012 limited edition watch and mumbled under our breath about “working out more.”
