Netflix Wants You to Share Your First Time…

...binge watching a TV show.

It’s not easy to find true love. So in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the one thing that’s always there for us: Netflix. And on this special chocolate and rose-filled holiday, the iconic streaming service has a romantic request for its devoted users: to remember your first time.

How long did yours last? Who was it with? Would you do it again? For many of us, that first time is life changing. And looking back now, it’s hard to believe that there was a time before our first. Did we even realize what we were missing out on?

Netflix is, of course, talking about binge-watching. According to the pros, a “binge” is defined as completing at least one season of a show within seven days of starting. Which, let’s be honest, is more of a regular occurrence than most of us would like to admit. (When I started the first season of How to Get Away with Murder at 8:30pm, I didn’t stop watching until I’d finished all 15 episodes — over 11 hours later.)

Looking back at some viewer habits, Netflix Canada compiled a list of some of the most popular first-time binges for its users, and the results aren’t too surprising:

Can’t remember your first binge? There’s a hack for that. Go to your Netflix account page, select “Viewing activity,” and scroll (and scroll…and scroll…and scroll…) all the way back to the start. But we’ll warn you now: it’s a journey. It can be emotional to look back at your first binge, and to reminisce over all the great binges you’ve had since. Whether we’re hibernating in solitude or curled up with a significant other, Netflix plays a huge role in our lives — and that’s a love worth celebrating.
