Everything Coming to Netflix Canada in July 2019
Including Season 3 of Stranger Things, Mary Poppins Returns, and the final instalment of Orange is the New Black.
Here’s a monthly breakdown of all the movies and TV series we can’t wait to stream on Netflix.
Stranger Things 3
It’s summer time in Hawkins, Indiana, and things are heating up. Eleven and her crew are growing up, and season 3 of this retro sci-fit hit series brings romance, high emotion, and all the confusion of adolescence (plus the gruesome monsters we’ve come to expect from the Upside Down, of course.) “We’re not kids anymore,” says Mike in the trailer, setting the tone for what to expect from this latest season, which The Ringer describes as “weaving anxieties about maturity and shifting identity into the fabric of the show.” Available July 4
Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room
The Guardian has crowned Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan “the queen of the caustic punchline,” and this stand-up special—her second on Netflix—is a pretty good indication of why. It sees her riffing on everything from meeting her daughter’s first celebrity crush, Anna Kendrick, to following a man to Japan, to musings on heteronormative gender roles: “Still, still, boys are taught to become somebody and girls are taught to find somebody.” She then goes on to explain why she has “chosen to do neither of those dog-shit things.” Available July 1
Cafarnaúm
The latest film from acclaimed Lebanese director Nadine Labaki was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars last year, and is a searing portrayal of the effects of war and conflict on children and other innocent civilians. It stars Syrian refugee child actor Zain Al Rafeea as a 12-year-old boy forced to make very difficult, adult decisions, taking us on a harrowing journey through the slums of Beirut. Available July 1
