“Being part of The Cloud 9 Tour has been the highlight of my career,” says Canadian makeup artist Jaeda Marie. Originally hailing from Vancouver, Marie now resides in Nashville, and is currently on a global tour with country music star Megan Moroney, which kicked off in late-May. And it comes at a perfect time, too. Moroney was recently announced as the new Global Ambassador for Revlon and the Be Unforgettable campaign.
“Having a key role in a production this large has pushed my skills and has allowed me to become a better hair and makeup artist,” says Marie. “Each night there are so many factors that go into the looks we create—like the temperature of the room, [considering] look on camera, any allergies that may affect eyes becoming teary, whether the show is inside or outside.” The list goes on and on. “It feels so special to be trusted with her hair and makeup each night.”
And while tour glam is known for being over the top, Marie still makes sure to emphasize Moroney’s natural features, rather than cake on makeup. “When I started getting into makeup as a young girl, my mom told me to do just the right amount of makeup so that I’d still look like myself, because I was beautiful. I have really taken that message to heart when it comes to my work, as I love to make my clients feel like the most beautiful version of themselves. I didn’t want Megan to enter her Cloud 9 era feeling like a completely different person. Maybe just a pinker and more sparkly version [of] Makeup should complement someone’s features, not overpower them. It’s not about adding more makeup, it’s about creating a look that feels timeless, photographs beautifully, and tells the story of that moment. I want my clients to look back at those photos years from now and still feel like themselves—just elevated and full of confidence.”
“For Megan’s signature makeup look, I rely on a select group of Revlon products that consistently deliver beautiful, long-lasting results, like PhotoReady Lift & Fill Skin Tint in the shade 140, ColorStay Day-to-Night Eyeshadow Quad in ‘Pretty’ (my go-to for creating her signature bright pink eye), and ColorStay Multi Liner in ‘002 Dallying’, then completing the look with the PhotoReady Instant Plump Serum in ‘Lip Floaties’.”
As for the newfound glamour of global tour life? “I think people might not realize that touring isn’t as glamorous as it seems,” says Marie. “Some nights you’re washing your face and brushing your teeth with bottled water or at [bathroom] sinks and hauling heavy suitcases up and down flights of stairs, only to do it all over again the next day. It’s an incredible experience, but it’s also physically and mentally demanding. One of the biggest challenges for me personally has been learning how to regulate my nervous system. It can take a toll on both your body and your mind, so it’s become important for me to take a moment every night to slow down, breathe and reflect. Usually during the opening act, I’ll step back and take everything in. Seeing thousands of people smiling and singing their hearts out reminds me exactly why I do what I do.”
