You Can Now Watch Madonna’s Much Talked-About Met Gala Performance

It's a birthday 'thank you' from the Queen of Pop

It was Madonna’s birthday yesterday, and overwhelmed by the outpouring of love she received from fans for her big 6-0, she decided to give them a little present of her own. You may remember her highly buzzed-about performance at the Met Gala in New York earlier this summer. Short clips of it were everywhere, even the most celebrated of celebs jostling for space to get a good view of Madonna, shrouded in darkness, taking her place on the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Great Hall as church bells ominously echoed through the space. Well now, we can finally watch the full 13-minute video.

“In celebration of my birthday??? , and as a “thank you” for all your donations on my Birthday Fundraiser, I wanted to share a very special performance from this year’s Met Gala ??????? ? Check out on my YouTube page and enjoy entire performance!,” she wrote.

Of course, this being the Met Gala, aka a night when the world’s most famous faces across fashion, film, music and sports come together under one roof, she really had to deliver, and oh boy did she. The performance begins in complete darkness, with her hooded, cloaked silhouette visible at the top of the grand staircase, against a backdrop of crimson curtains and magnificent archways. Backup singers in brown Gregorian robes surround her, chanting, as she makes her way slowly down the stairs, singing ‘Like A Prayer.’ A fitting choice, keeping in mind the topic of this year’s Costume Institute exhibit, and hence, the theme of the evening—Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. She then debuted a snippet from her brand new single ‘Beautiful Game’ before ending with a powerful cover of ‘Hallelujah.’
