Lindsay Lohan Has Not Converted To Islam

Some Muslims might be disappointed to find out Lindsay Lohan has actually not converted to Islam, despite circulating rumours.

Over the weekend, the Mean Girls star got people buzzing after she deleted all her Instagram posts. She proceeded to change her bio to “Alaikum salam” (and unto you be peace), a standard Muslim greeting. But what looked like validation that she converted might have been just another fragment of the actress’ spiritual journey.

Lohan’s mother, Dina Lohan, told Gossip Cop that the speculations are false and was backed up by Lohan’s rep who said, “She has not converted.” Dina also confirmed that her daughter is simply taking a break from social media, not joining a new religion.

But the rumours weren’t too far of a stretch. Lohan, who was raised Catholic, has publicly shown interest in Islam in the past. Back in 2015, she was seen holding a Quran in New York, given to her by a close friend. She told The Sun at the time that she was, in fact, studying Islam.

“America has portrayed holding a Koran in such a different way to what it actually is,” she said. “We all believe in something and at the end of the day it all ties to a god or a spiritual adviser.”

And Muslims all over the world have been supporting Lohan’s interest in their religion, with many even welcoming her as their new sister in Islam, amidst the rumours.

The 30-year-old actress has recently been immersing herself heavily in religious studies and travelling. Last December, she journeyed to Dubai for a “period of renewal.” She has also been working closely with Syrian refugees in Turkey, sporting stylish headscarves simultaneously.

Her change in behaviour ties into her long-lasting spiritual journey. In 2014, Lohan told Oprah, “I’ve become more spiritual as time has gone on. I’m really in touch, whether it’s prayer or meditation… there are so many powers greater than me in the world. I’ve been blessed and lucky enough to have been given a gift to share with other people.”

But at least Lohan has been preaching kindness and indulging herself in humanitarian work, which is certainly a huge turnaround from her days pre-rehab. Whatever path LiLo chooses, we wish her all the best!
