Kanye West Actually Has a Pretty Great Idea About How to Change Instagram

Kanye West is a man of many ideas. They aren’t always great ideas, but they’re always big ideas — and they’re typically shared loudly with the world via social media. Like once, he had the idea to tweet at Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, asking him to invest $1 billion in "Kanye ideas.” Wow, what an idea! Now, he’s calling Zuckerberg out once again, taking his big ideas about social media back to social media. And this time, he’s actually making a lot of sense.

“There are people who are committing suicide due to not getting enough likes,” Ye tweeted on Saturday. “Seeking validation in the simulation. We need a live-streamed meeting with Jack Dorsey Kevin Systrom Mike Krieger Mark Zuckerberg and Evan Spiegal.”

“Speaking for myself, " he wrote in a second tweet, “I personally want to participate in social media with the option of not having to show my followers or likes.”

And in a third tweet, he threw out some similes to really hammer home his point: “Having your amount of likes on display for the world to see and judge is like showing how much money you have in the bank or having to write the size of your dick on your t shirt.”

Later posts to Instagram made it clear that West, who has 3.6 million Instagram followers, has actually been in contact with at least some of the names he mentioned. He shared a conversation he had with Ben Schwerin, Snapchat’s head of partnerships, in which Shwerin appears to agree with West’s criticism of social media.

A post made by West to both Instagram and Twitter earlier in the week shows a conversation with Jack Dorsey, the CEO and co-founder of Twitter. Again, it appears that the social media professional is considering West’s criticisms, citing that Twitter specifically has been considering ways to downplay likes and follower counts.

Conversations about vanity, self-worth, mental health and social media are increasingly important, no matter where they’re coming from. And they have us asking ourselves an interesting question: would I use social media without metrics? If Kanye West continues adding his voice to the industry, you might soon have this choice. I just wonder what side his wife and family-in-law sit on.
