Insider scoop: Our 30th party!

What was a girl to do with the party of the year fast approaching? Why, borrow a fabulous floor-length gown, pull out the mile-long faux eyelashes, grab her best red lipstick and pop the champagne. And luckily for her, in true girlie style, she had her co-workers alongside her to chat, drink, and ooh and ahh over every hair, makeup, and dress moment leading up to the big night.

And what a big night it was. From the 64-foot-long runway, to the scrumptious Jamie Kennedy prepared meal, to the white leather couches, white candles, and fridges stocked with bevvies on the dance floor, FASHION’s 30th Anniversary Party at the Moss Park Armoury definitely became a night to remember.

This fortunate and fashionable girl was seated next to the lovely Rosanna Plutino of Plutino Group and also sparked some conversation with Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong of super cute label Greta Constantine (see our Best Dressed list coming soon!) as well as makeup master Greg Wencel, all while drinking even more champagne. Looking dapper in Dior, Toronto Star stylist and fashion writer Derrick Chetty, apparently too fab to be photographed, stole the man show with his black jacket with white piping and matching white scarf.

After dinner it was time to mingle. And, with no shortage of alcohol on site, it was time to indulge: think white rum with coconut water (yum!) and the night’s signature cocktail, a mix of Amarula cream liqueur and, yup, more coconut water. Celeb spotting was easy peasy. There was Monica Schnarre, Matt Dusk, two of the cute boys from Hedley (thankfully with their pants on!––this fashionable girl saw a bit too much of the boys a few years back at the Juno Awards in Halifax!), Corner Gas’s Tara Spencer-Nairn, MuchMusic hosts Matte Babel, Sarah Taylor, Devon Soltendieck, and alum Rick Campenelli, now of ET Canada. Eugene Levy’s son and MTV Live host Dan Levy held court (where was Jesse––we missed a chance for our own little Hills aftershow!), while designers Arthur Mendonça, David Dixon, Jeremy Laing, and Mikhael Kale milled about.

After chatting up the guests, it was time to hit the dance floor. Who can resist “Stronger” by Kanye West? Definitely not the girls from FASHION, who got the dancing off to a bumping and grinding start. Suave music man Dusk was smooth while dancing with a female partner, but a little bit goofy while on his own, though we applaud him for having such a good time. Also spotted on the dance floor were Kim D’Eon of ET Canada and Adrian Mainella of CBC’s Fashion File. Kale began flipping some ladies wildly about the floor, including FASHION’s Leah Rumack, who looked über cute in one of his dresses. As Justin Timberlake sounded from the DJ booth, we were all wondering if the hottie would show – he is, after all, filming a movie in Toronto. But unfortunately it was not to be.

Though the party was still going strong, this fashionable girl’s feet couldn’t take it any more, so by about 2 a.m. it was high time to make a fashionable exit.

Shown: Holt Renfrew’s Natalie Lecomte and Brent Weisgerber.
