Leave it to David Bowie to, once again, redefine cool in less than six minutes. Ahead of his first new album in a decade, The Next Day, the Thin White Duke has released his latest single “The Stars (are out tonight)” along with an epically stylized new video which co-stars Tilda Swinton, Andrej Pejic, Saskia de Brauw and Iselin Steiro. The five, all masters of androgyny in their own right, play a twisted game of Twilight Zone-esque celebrity switcheroo during which Bowie and Swinton, a middle-aged “normal” couple get haunted and then transformed into their much slicker selves by Pejic and de Brauw who are younger, more glamorous, and gender bending-ly erotic. Steiro plays Bowie’s stylish conscience, watching through windows in slim high-waisted pants. Directed by Canadian filmmaker Floria Sigismondi, the six-minute mini movie is a visual feast, to say the least. Enjoy this taste of Bowie coolness. His album will surely offer even more when it drops on March 12.
