This tidbit may still be in the rumour mill phase, but if it turns out to be true, this will be the best news we’ve heard all week: according to the Mirror, the Spice Girls may be joining the lineup for the London Olympics closing ceremony on August 12. And cue heart palpitation.

Supposedly, the girls were approached about performing at the Symphony of British Music two years ago, but because Victoria Beckham and Mel B. were both in the States (not to mention all the girls’ hectic work schedules, especially Victoria’s demanding designer duties), they didn’t think they’d be a go in time for the Olympics. But in a classic case of when-one-door-closes-a-window-opens, David Beckham’s exclusion from the Team GB soccer squad has suddenly given Victoria an unexpected amount of time on her hands, time that she can put towards the on-stage reunion.

Apparently, the final decision rests on Mel C. now. Her current gig as a judge for the talent show Superstar may throw a wrench into plans for the performance, but since the Mirror is reporting that sources say the girls are “95 per cent” on board, we’re going to cross our fingers and start looking for our Union Jack dresses and platform sneakers.
