Everything You Need to Know About Apple’s New AirPods Pro
The newest addition to the headphone family launches today.
The year might almost be over but Apple is nowhere near done with its headline-making announcements. Following the launch of its new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro last month and the announcement of Apple TV+, today the brand is releasing AirPods Pro.
Building on the huge success of its original AirPods (which are the world’s number one selling headphone), the new AirPods Pro come packed with some pretty impressive features in something so small.
Perhaps the most exciting of the lot is the noise cancellation technology that allows users to block out noise from the outside world. By pairing two microphones with advanced software that constantly monitors sound signals (200 times per second, to be exact), the new AirPods Pro completely eliminate unwanted background noise. If you want to get really technical, this is done via the creation of anti-noise within the headphones after the microphones detect external sound.
To further enhance the noise cancellation experience, Apple has designed three different sizes of silicone ear tips that allow users to truly customize their fit by finding the right tip that fits exactly with the shape of each of their ears. By providing this seal, the brand is able to offer superior sound immersion and a comfortable listening experience via a venting system that helps to equalize pressure. On your phone, you can conduct an ‘Ear Tip Fit Test’ that will tell you exactly which size provides the perfect seal (and therefore best audio experience) for each ear.
The new headphones also come with a cool new feature built for urban life: transparency mode. This feature allows users to listen to music and hear what’s happening around them at the same time – like a TTC announcement, for example. To enable transparency mode, all you have to do is touch the new sensor on the stem of the headphone once and it will automatically switch. To change back, simply press the sensor again, or use the control on your phone.
The new generation of AirPods are also water- and sweat-resistant, with a battery life of up to five hours (much like the original AirPods) or four and a half hours in noise cancellation mode. New software updates also see the introduction of audio sharing whereby two people can listen to the same song or watch a movie together via two separate sets of AirPods, as well as a new announce message function that will read your text messages to you when they come in.
