Which Bridesmaid Is Most Likely to Steal the Royal Wedding Spotlight?
Here's hoping for a 'Grumpy Grace' 2.0
In the months leading up to the royal wedding, multi-page tabloid spreads speculated who Meghan Markle would name as her maid of honour. Would it be Jessica Mulroney, her fashionable Canadian confidante? Lindsay Roth, her college bestie? Or, in a media-pleasing move, would she choose A-List Hollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra? We didn’t know much, but we knew that Markle’s estranged half-sister Samantha definitely wouldn’t be getting the chance to pull a Pippa.
Then, earlier this month, Kensington Palace shared that Markle has chosen not to have a right hand woman, citing that she felt unable to choose between her close group of friends. (AKA: Markle will not be upstaged by anyone, family or otherwise, on her big day.) She will, however, have a fleet of tiny, adorably dressed children joining her as she walks down the aisle. Which among them is most likely to steal the spotlight away from Markle and Prince Harry on their wedding day? Here’s everything you need to know:
HRH Princess Charlotte of Cambridge
This three-year-old needs no introduction. Famous for her perfect royal wave, the littlest female royal hogs attention everywhere she goes. With cheeks like those, how could she not?! Plus, after serving as flower girl at her aunt Pippa’s wedding last year, Princess Charlotte already has wedding party experience—and we know she looks good in the outfit.
Miss Florence van Cutsem
Florence van Cutsem, a goddaughter of Prince Harry, is from a family with a grand legacy of stealing the show at royal weddings. That’s because her cousin, Grace (pictured above), became an Internet meme when she covered her ears and scowled while Prince William and Kate Middleton shared their wedding kiss. At three years old, Florence is the same age Grace was when she appeared grumpy at royal wedding 1.0. Will history repeat itself? Honestly, we hope so.
Miss Ivy Mulroney
This pint-sized Canadian icon is no stranger to the spotlight. The socialite-in-training is already strutting down catwalks and starring in sponsored content videos with her mom, Meghan Markle’s sidekick Jessica Mulroney. There is, however, the possibility of a mid-ceremony meltdown. A quick scan of her mom’s social media brings up several instances of tantrums and tears. (I mean, she is only three years old.) But, with her two seven-year-old twin brothers, John and Brian, serving as pageboys in the ceremony, she’ll have family nearby to calm any nerves. (And we’re sure Mrs. Jessica Mulroney won’t be too far away from the centre of the spectacle either.)
Miss Zalie Warren
The Mulroney boys aren’t the only twins in the wedding party. The youngest of the group, Miss Zalie is the goddaughter of Prince Harry, and the daughter of Zoe Warren and Jake Warren. The Warren family is connected to the royals through horse-racing: Jake is the son of John Warren, the Queen’s racing manager, and one of Princess Diana’s 17 (!!!) godchildren. In an interesting twist, Zalia’s twin sister, India, is not a bridesmaid in the wedding, on account of her not being goddaughter to the groom. I don’t know how India feels—or who her godparents are—but I would never forgive my parents. Is two years old too young to pull a Parent Trap?
Miss Remi Litt & Miss Rylan Litt
Ages six and seven, these cuties are the children of Markle’s longtime BFF, Benita Litt. Markle plays godmother to both, and seeing as they seem to have a close relationship with the bride-to-be, we doubt they’ll try to steal her thunder. Plus, as the oldest among the bridesmaids, they’re bound to be a little more mature. Perhaps they’ll take on the responsibility of keeping the other six bridesmaids in check. This really is the babysitting gig of a lifetime!
