If 2025 was the year of the bob—in all of its sharp, ultra-polished, straightened-to-perfection glory—we’re now entering its growing-out era. And the blunt little bob’s next evolution is already redefining the beauty landscape. Think shoulder-grazing lengths, a ton of texture and expertly placed face-framing layers that bring dimension back. Lived-in ease—from easy-to-maintain cuts to hair colours that focus on health and shine—will reign supreme for the foreseeable future, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Less time in the salon chair? Sign us up.

From flirty ‘60s-inspired lobs to wild-card bangs for the bravest among us to new-gen mullets, celebrity hairstylist and Olaplex Pro Collective member Cindy Duplantis shares the haircuts you’ll see everywhere this year.

The Bob 2.0

The bob is here to stay. But in 2026, it’s less about how blunt you can make it and more about finding ways to blend its sharp edges. “We’re seeing a lot more layers, which give it movement and personality,” says Duplantis. Case in point: Ayo Edebiri and Selena Gomez both leaned into Old-Hollywood glamour at the Golden Globes with dramatic sculpted bobs that put the spotlight on the cut’s softer side.

Want to embrace retro vibes for spring? Gomez’s long-time hairstylist Renato Compora shared how he achieved the star’s glamorous wedding bob: a good-old curling iron and a generous helping of firm-hold foam. (Though we imagine having a world-renowned pro on speed dial wouldn’t hurt either.)

The Flirty Lob

Another iteration of the bob you’ll want to bookmark immediately? The lob, its grown-out sister. Whereas a traditional bob typically hits between the jaw and the chin, this cut skims the shoulders, explains Duplantis.

For an easy way to wear the look, take a cue from Hailey Bieber’s flippy ‘60s-inspired styling. “It’s working with the curve that tends to happen naturally when your hair touches your shoulders, rather than trying to keep it straight,” Duplantis says, adding that less is more. “You don’t want to make it completely rounded, you just want that little flick.” She recommends working in a pea-sized amount of the Olaplex No.5 Leave-In Conditioner on wet hair before blow-drying with a round brush to curve out the ends, then adding a little more to tease out that after-party, lived-in texture.

Bold Bangs for All

Bangs are well and truly back into the beauty zeitgeist. From easy-to-wear curtains to curly fringes to fashion-forward bowl bangs, anything goes this year. But we’re calling it now: romantic French-girl fringes and bold baby bangs are going to dominate street-style moments and red carpets for the months ahead.

In true Parisian fashion, French-girl bangs have an effortlessly cool, laissez-faire vibe. Dakota Johnson has long mastered the look with her signature wispy fringe. One thing to remember? “As soon as your bangs start drying, they’re styling,” says Duplantis, who recommends ditching the heat altogether for low-lift, high-impact results. Instead, she likes to use makeup clips to keep the hair in place as it dries without creasing it. “Use a tiniest little bit of leave-in conditioner on wet hair and you’re good to go.” Honestly, it sounds like we’ve been overcomplicating things this whole time.

And for the boldest among us, microbangs—recently spotted on the likes of Zoë Kravitz, Lily Allen and Pamela Anderson—immediately dial the cool-girl vibes all the way up. Though the forehead-baring baby bangs trend may not be for everyone, Duplantis drops a convincing argument for giving it a whirl. “It really brings out the eyes and brightens the face,” she says. Plus, it lets you go in longer between trims. Win-win.

The Butterfly Blowout

The secret behind Sabrina Carpenter’s bombshell blowout? It’s not an expensive hot tool or a set of rollers—though those help, too. It all starts with the right haircut. Enter the butterfly, a longer, softer and more refined version of the edgier wolf cut. It’s no wonder the butterfly haircut is a pop-star fave and a viral TikTok sensation—Duplantis likens the effect of its face-framing layers to contouring. “We bring in layers to accentuate the cheekbones or jawline,” she explains. “It looks phenomenal on everyone.”

When it comes to styling, think glossy, healthy strands above everything else. Duplantis swears by the Olaplex Volumizing Blow Dry Mist to give the ‘do major body without the crunch, as well as a few drops of the Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil to tame flyaways and give the hair starlet-worthy polish.

The Curly Shag

Odessa A’zion is the ultimate It-girl. Proof? The Marty Supreme star’s glam is so on point that her signature corkscrew curls recently sparked controversy, with people speculating that a mane that good had to be a wig. As it turns out, A’zion is blessed with great hair—and a head-turning curly shag. “It used to be that people who rock the wolf cut with curly hair were at the cutting edge,” Duplantis says. “It’s going mainstream—now everyone wants curly bangs.” But no matter how popular it gets, there’s something a little undone about the curly shag that screams cool and edgy.

If you want to take a page out of A’zion’s book and embrace your natural texture, stock up on curl creams and mousses to shape, define and hold curls of all types.

The Lived-In Mullet

Laid-back texture is the name of the game for men’s cuts, too. Just take Jacob Elordi’s spotlight-stealing grooming on the Wuthering Heights press tour. The only thing more mesmerizing than his mullet? His co-star Margot Robbie’s gothic-inspired gowns, one of which featured real human hair. “It’s the male version of the wolf cut,” says Duplantis about the cut that’s currently making the red-carpet rounds. (Heated Rivalry breakout star Connor Storrie and Nick Jonas have also put their own spin on the look.) To keep the mullet from feeling like an ‘80s cosplay, she suggests keeping length at the top for added texture and cutting choppy bangs styled swept over the brows. Think grown-out and undone, but purposefully so.

In a GQ interview, Elordi’s hairstylist Amy Komorowski dished on how she styles the actor’s effortlessly cool new-gen mullet. The highlights? The Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, two OG styling products you might already have in your collection.

Low-Maintenance Curls

From Timothée Chalamet’s luscious locks (pre-buzz cut, that is) to Jeremy Allen White’s messy, I-woke-up-like-this styling, Hollywood’s leading men are embracing their curls—and contributing to the perm’s big comeback. “We’re seeing so many guys come in for perms,” shares Duplantis. But forget the tight ringlets and frosted tips of the early aughts. Nowadays, the vibe is soft, natural curls that give the hair a ton of dimension and movement on top, with ever-so-slightly tapered sides à la Paul Mescal.

Whether your curls are natural or need a little salon boost, pair with texturizing formulas, a volumizing pomade and some easy-breezy finger combing to nail the look.

The Clean-Cut Side Part

Changing up your part may just be the easiest way to switch up your style. Just ask Glen Powell, who leveled-up his baby mullet with a deep side part at the Golden Globes, taking it from casual to country-club without losing the length. With a softly gelled swoop and neatly tucked sides, the hairdo is ideal for anybody looking to maintain a clean-cut aesthetic.

To get the foundation of the look right, air-dry your hair into place and invest in a comb that doubles as a conversation piece anytime you pull it out of your pocket.
