What’s in your bag, Charlotte Tilbury?

What do you do when you’re offered a peek into the purse of the world’s most famous makeup artist? You expect a lot of products (and beauty secrets!). We caught up with Charlotte Tilbury when she was in town last month and spent an hour in her hotel bathroom playing with beauty products (hey, someone’s gotta do the tough work). Tilbury, who stopped mid-interview to bronze my legs for me, has done the face of every celebrity and supermodel you can think of.

Her line launched in Canada in June (at Holt Renfrew), and offers 10 different looks to choose from, including “Vintage Vamp,” inspired by Rihanna, “Golden Goddess,” inspired by Gisele and “Rock Chick,” inspired by Kate Moss.

“I believe in the power of beauty and how makeup can change a woman’s life for the better---give them confidence, make them happy, more empowered,” says Tilbury, who famously goes to sleep in a nighttime makeup look rather than bare-faced. “My whole thing is just empowerment.”

“My [Instagram] notifications are on all the time. I like to see what’s going on. You get a real high [from it]. I love social media and the way you can communicate directly with everybody; you can get such instant gratification. You get to see how much people love your photos. It’s fabulous. I follow a lot of accounts. Mert and Marcus, Mario Testino, Kim Kardashian, there’s a ton. I follow my friends, basically. I always carry that picture of my husband and I. That was taken at the launch of my brand. We took a picture together in the photo booth and he made it into a polaroid and wrote, “I love you” on it. I always have my diary, because I’ve constantly got invitations, so I’ve got a diary of where I’m going to be in the world.”
