C’est Fantastique! Makeup Artist Tom Pecheux Lands at YSL Beauté

There hasn’t been a time in my covering of this beat when French makeup artist Tom Pecheux wasn’t part of the beauty department conversation. Years go when he was with Shiseido, Laura, the beauty director at the time would come off a phone interview with him all hot and bothered. “I want to have sex with him,” she would say, with a sigh, disregarding the fact that he’s gay. That’s the thing about Pecheux; even when he’s not making women look “naughty” (as he likes to say) with a killer smudged eye, he’s making them feel...fired up.

It’s a quality that has been part of his decades long career that kicked off with assisting Linda Cantello and with the encouragement and support of now bestie Carine Roitfeld, saw Pecheux come to be one of the biggest makeup artists today; he’s worked with everyone from Chanel to Altuzarra. Though he joined Estée Lauder in 2009, it always seemed like a weird fit; the man is just too French for such an all American brand. But now that YSL has tapped him to be their new global beauty director, suddenly les étoiles are aligned. In his new role, he’ll work on campaigns and runways shows, as well as develop products. We can’t wait to see what badass, mischievous amazingness he comes up with.
