The scalp care boom is quickly reshaping the hair industry, with consumers shifting their focus from strands to skin. Projected to exceed $28 billion globally by 2030, this category is rooted in the idea of treating the scalp like an extension of the face. As Dr. Jenny Liu, a dermatologist based in Minneapolis, notes, “Healthy hair starts at the follicle, making scalp care essential for density, strength and overall quality.”
Anna Lahey, co-founder of Typebea, an Australian brand new to Canada, points to a more intentional approach. “If you’re noticing more hair in your brush or in the shower, then I would recommend going for growth-focused products,” she says, reflecting a shift toward more-targeted concerns. For celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh, the mindset shift is long overdue: “Your scalp is where your hair comes from—and it’s something people have historically ignored. Now we can actually treat it like skin.”

This shift is driving a demand for targeted, treatment-led formulas—products like Dyson Amino Leave-In Scalp Bubble Treatment, which delivers lightweight hydration directly to the scalp without complicating styling, and Nioxin Age Defense Serum, which focuses on thinning and scalp resilience. Meanwhile, Typebea G1 Overnight Boosting Peptide Hair Serum (the brand’s bestseller) leans into peptide technology to support the appearance of fuller, healthier hair over time.
Notably, these formulas don’t rely on Minoxidil, the active ingredient found in treatments like Rogaine that directly stimulates hair growth. Instead, they take a more holistic approach, improving scalp hydration, reducing inflammation, supporting the skin barrier and creating an optimal environment for hair to thrive. As scalp serums, exfoliants and overnight treatments become everyday essentials, one thing is clear: Healthy hair is no longer just about what you see; it starts at the source.
