Missoni Minx! Fendi gold lids! Our top 5 favourite beauty trends coming out of Milan

Ciao, Milano! Now, it’s onto Paris. But before we turn our attention from Piazza Oberdan to the Grand Palais, we wanted to share some of our favourite beauty looks from MFW. Here are five we love.

Minx nails at Missoni
A departure from the nude nails seen on Milan runways last season, these custom-printed Minx nail appliqués were applied over an iridescent base. We’re praying that like Missoni for Target, these beauties make it to the masses, too.

Major lids at Fendi
We knew Peter Philips fancied metallics (he used several versions for the fall ’11 shows), but the gold and silver eyes he crafted at Fendi confirm it wasn’t just a seasonal crush. Using adhesive and bits of foil, he covered eyelids and extended the shiny treatment all the way up and over the brows. Philips’ optical masterpieces would have stolen the show if it weren’t for the teased and tucked-under hair that Sam McKnight created to make models look like “madcap mathematicians.”

Sterile, faux bobs at Jil Sander
It’s hard not to marvel at Guido Palau’s clinical-feeling updos without a stray hair to be found. In fact, the look is so perfectly locked into place, it’s as though Palau vacuum-packed each model’s head.

Bright eyes at Marni
After adding an artful stroke of burnt orange liner to the upper lash line, Tom Pecheux lined the lower lid with a white eye pencil, smudging it and slightly dragging the pigment down for a melting effect.

Black beauty at Gucci
After turning models into modern day Sophia Lorens with flushed cheeks and glowing skin at Dolce & Gabbana, Pat McGrath did a total 180 at Gucci, blackening the eyes and bleaching out brows in a nod to Debbie Harry. Luigi Murenu followed suit, securing the double ponytails with electrical tape and using cream makeup to create black streaks on the sides of the hair.
