Here’s How Alix Branchi Celebrates Her Natural Beauty

In partnership with Burt’s Bees, FASHION is celebrating natural beauty and the women who define it.

“For me, natural beauty is a lot to do with my hair,” Alix Branchi tell us as we sit down to chat with her in between the hair and makeup chair on set with Burt’s Bees for our partnership celebrating all things natural beauty. “I used to straighten it all the time then one day, I was like, ‘It’s not worth it’ so I cut it all off and went curly. It completely changed my life. It’s so much easier now. I feel like I look myself more, I feel happier and it’s easier to do.” The decision to chop off her hair didn’t come overnight, though Alix says she kept reminding herself of one very important fact: “I kept telling myself that this is the hair that grows out of my head so it will look good.”

Her desire for an easy routine extends to her makeup also, with Alix telling us that she considers her morning makeup application as her own mindful practice. “I’ll put on music or a podcast and spend that time with myself. I never think about what I’m going to do to my face. I assess how I’m feeling before and then I go with that for my routine. My mindfulness starts with my morning routine and sets me up for the rest of the day.”

As for what she’s reaching for during that time? A selection of makeup products that are all “mostly natural.” She explains, “If it’s an option, I’ll always choose the natural product. I think I’m just drawn to that more. I think that they work better, and it feels better on your skin,” adding that she hasn’t “found any natural products where I’ve thought, ‘Oh, this isn’t as good [as something non-natural].'”

For this shoot, we used the new Burt’s Bees Matte Stick in Liquid Ruby on Alix, alongside the brand’s new All Aflutter Multi-Benefit Mascara, blush and concealer – which, as it turns out, perfectly mirrors Alix’s own routine. “I don’t like a lot of fuss,” she tells us. “I don’t have a lot of time in the morning so it’s a little bit of concealer, a lot of blush to look awake and lip balm.”

The new Matte Stick is available in 12 shades, and is made with a creamy, buildable formula so you too can adapt your look based your own mood. Plus, all Burt’s Bees products are made using ingredients from nature, formulated without parabens, phtalates or petrolatum and are not tested on animals. The product packaging is also crafted using post-consumer recycled content to make it as recyclable as possible.

In her own life, Alix says she opts for brands with values that mirror her own – eco-friendliness, being one of them. “I try to do little things,” she says of her own attempts to be kind to the environment. “I walk everywhere, I use a reusable coffee mug. I don’t like waste, so I recycle. If I can do something right, then I will.”
