“Aperol Spritz Makeup” Is About to Become Your Summer Beauty Obsession

Let the summer drink inspire your orange sunset-infused makeup look.

Is there anything more utterly heavenly than an Aperol spritz in the summer? That’s a rhetorical question, because the answer is an emphatic “nuh-uh.” Whether it’s a crisp mocktail or heavy on the botanical liquer, nothing says summer fun like sipping on that unnaturally orange bevvy while chatting away on a patio with your pals.

And now, you can translate the feeling of joy you get when you take that first sip into an Aperol spritz-inspired makeup look.

Even if you’re not all over #BeautyTok, chances are you’ve encountered — and perhaps even partaken in?— this spritz-inspired beauty trend before. Aperol spritz makeup is all about taking the drink’s stunning summery hue, reminiscent of a sunset, and incorporating orange, coral, and tangerine colours into your beauty looks. Fun!

As with many of the food-inspired makeup trends that have been popular in recent years, Aperol spritz makeup is having a viral moment thanks to model Hailey Bieber and the upcoming release of her Rhode Pocket Blush. Speaking to Glamour U.K. ahead of the June 20 launch, Bieber shared her vision for the creamy blushes, comparing the product to Rhode’s Peptide Lip Tint and how it makes the wearer look like they just bit into a “gorgeous piece of fruit” that stained their lips. Similarly, Bieber says, the Pocket Blush gives a pigmented flush. “I want people to put it on and think, There’s an Aperol spritz,” Bieber said. “Maybe that’s it — it’s Aperol spritz makeup next!”

While the trend may be having a moment for summer 2024, using the beloved summer cocktail as makeup inspo isn’t brand new, with beauty creators applying tropical coral and tangerine colours to their eyelids, cheeks and lips.

The key to perfecting this fresh summer makeup look starts with a creating glowy base, however that may look for you and your complexion. It’s also best to figure out which blush colour on the Aperol spectrum works for you and your skin tone: Are you more of a coral? A tangerine? A melon? Or an apricot? And are you wanting to make a statement or attempt a more subtle everyday look?

While rosy pink blushes and lipsticks are complimentary to warmer complexions, as makeup artist Pablo Rodriguez told Refinery29, orange-hued blush can add contrast and give a healthy glow (they also look ca-uuute on olive complexions). Plus, there’s nothing wrong with a little beauty experimentation.

For a subtle take on the trend, try first bringing the Aperol vibes into your routine via your blush. A soft swipe of a shade like Nudestix’s Nudies Blush Stick in Picante on your cheekbones and lips will help bring a pop of colour as well as a monochromatic touch to your look.

If you’re looking for something a little stronger, Too Faced’s Italian Spritz Eye Shadow Palette offers eye shadow options in a range of Aperol-certified colours, meaning you can mix, layer and lean as little — or as much — into the trend as you want.

Ready for an Aperol spritz summer? We’ve rounded up sunset-inspired makeup picks that’ll pair perfectly with your patio drinks.
