Kate Moss’s Daughter’s First Ad Campaign is Facing a Ton of Backlash

Lila Grace Moss (a.k.a. Kate Moss’s daughter) has landed her first-ever ad campaign, but with it comes a lot of controversy.

The 14-year-old model stars in an advertisement for the Braid Bar (a Selfridges-based salon) alongside Mick Jones’s daughter, Stella Jones, sporting multiple multi-coloured braids.

However, people were quick to cry cultural appropriation on the “#braidbaes” campaign, for failing to feature diverse models (read: women of colour who traditionally sport those very hairstyles) in the ad.

Following the backlash, the Braid Bar took to its website to address the controversy, promising to include more diverse faces on its social feeds.

“It has come to our attention that we have not given enough consideration to the cultures that we have drawn from in creating The Braid Bar, particularly Black culture,” reads the statement. “We would like to reach out and apologize to all of those who have been offended by our lack of cultural sensitivity, and promise that from this point onwards, you will see changes in the way that we do things.”

Here’s hoping they follow through with their promise.
