LFW backstage beauty: A red wine–stained, snogged mouth at Giles
“It’s all about a red wine–stained, snogged mouth,” said Lucia Pieroni of the makeup at Giles Spring 2012 show, applying M.A.C’s lip pencil in “Brick” onto the inside of the mouth and “Burgundy” on top, blended outward with a Q-tip. “There’s no defined line around the edge, but it’s quite dark in the middle.” The rest of the face was quite bare—a smidge of “Russian Red” lipstick on the cheeks, rubbed in with a large brush and a bit of lip balm on the eyelids, tops of the cheeks, and on the bridge of the nose for a bit of highlight.
For the girls who didn’t don one of Stephen Jones’ fantastic swan headpieces, Paul Hanlon wanted hair to look as natural as possible; in fact, he was inspired by one of the models at the hair test the night before. “She walked in and had just had a quick shower,” he said. “Her hair was side parted, in a loose ponytail, and when she took it out, we loved it.” To recreate this undone look, the girls’ hair was washed with Label.M Honey & Oat Shampoo, and minimal products were used. “If we can, we’re not using any heat,” he said, “but we’ll use products like the Blowout Spray or Frizz Control Serum to give the hair a little bit of help.”
