Everything You Need to Know About Dyson’s First Hair Straightener
Prepare your credit cards people, because Dyson has just released its newest hairstyling innovation: the Dyson Corrale.
Launching today, the straightener (which is available in three colours) has been in development for quite some time, with the brand investing $174 million into research on the science of hair straightening over the past decade. In order to straighten hair, “a combination of heat, tension and control is required,” the brand explains in its official release. “Heat to break down the hydrogen bonds in the hair, tension and compression to reshape these bonds and control to apply the heat and tension evenly. ” During its research period, the company discovered the limitations of traditional flat plate straighteners to deliver a precise straightening experience with less heat damage for the user. And so, the Dyson Corrale was born.
Here’s what you need to know about the brand’s newest gamechanging launch:
It’s cordless
The Corrale is a cordless straightener which gives you the freedom to style your hair wherever you so please. Powered by the same expertise applied to the brand’s vacuum cleaners, the four-cell lithium-ion battery in the straightener is fully charged in just 70 minutes, and provides 30 minutes of styling power at any one time. This time can be extended by placing the straightener on the charging dock throughout your styling session, or by simply connecting the 360-degree magnetic charging cable.
It will travel with you
For those of us who like to travel with our hair tools, there’s good news on this front too: not only is the straightener universal voltage (*insert clapping emoji*), it also features a flight mode feature that can be enabled to allow the product to travel in carry-on baggage.
It is the first straightener with flexible plates for more precise styling and less heat damage
One of the biggest issues the new Dyson Corrale has been designed to eliminate is repeated passes on the hair. In a release the brand explained, “Dyson’s extensive testing highlights that flat plate straighteners can only apply heat and tension to the thickest part of the tress and this means that towards the edges of the tress there are loose stands which are not treated or tensioned. These become flyaways and are only brought into the tress through repeated passes, by which time excessive heat has been applied, which causes a reduction in hair strength, gloss and colour.” To combat this issue, Dyson has created patented precision engineered, flexible plates from manganese copper that flex to provide greater styling control by applying tension evenly across the section of hair. This in turns lessens heat damage by a huge 50 per cent. “We engineered unique flexing plates of magnesium copper, wired eroded to a precise accuracy of 65 microns to adapt to the shape of the hair tress. The copper plates wrap around the tress, applying even heat and tension to all the hair strands, keeping them aligned,” explains brand founder James Dyson.
And speaking of heat damage, the straightener also has Intelligent Heat Control
Much like in its sister products – the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer and the Dyson Airwrap – the Dyson Corrale has something the brand calls Intelligent Heat Control. The straightener has three temperature settings (165, 185 and 210 degrees celsius) and each of these settings is monitored by a platinum sensor 100 times a second. What this means for the user is more controlled, accurate heat delivery so you can get the style you’re going for without any excessive heat exposure.
You can also use it to create waves
Fear not, in addition to a superior straightening experience, the Dyson Corrale can also be used to create waves. Thanks to the innovative flex plates, the straightener glides easily through the hair to create soft waves in almost no time at all.
