Depending on your hair type and the salon you go to, an average blowout (wash and dry) costs about fifty or sixty dollars. It’s also nearly impossible to book a last-minute appointment unless you’re going to a blowdry bar (and it’s not like the city’s full of them). For me, all of these things lead to not getting a blowout very often, but constantly wanting one.
Enter: GlamLeague, the new app that’s basically Uber for blowouts. The premise is simple: enter the time and location you want (or use the map to use your current location) and request a blowout. Within minutes, you’ll get a text from the app letting you know which salon you’re booked at and when. You can book up to two hours in advance, and it’ll send you to one of 30+ salons that have partnered with GlamLeague.
The best part: unlimited blowouts for $99 a month. The blowouts themselves are a bit of a gamble. Because you don’t get to pick which one you want to go to (just the general area), you may end up with a dud. But it’s not likely to happen, since the creators of the app have carefully sourced each salon and tried them out (read: not every salon that wants to can join GlamLeague). Besides, at such an insanely low price, you can afford to take the risk. Like pizza and sex, a bad blowout is better than no blowout at all. (I’m actually not sure I mean that but let’s go with it.) Since joining GlamLeague, I’ve only walked away with a blowout I didn’t love once.
And just like Uber, you can rate your experience when you’re done, so if you don’t love your blowout at one salon twice (they believe in second chances), they won’t send you there again. That being said, GlamLeague has even partnered with some A-list salons, like Jie Prive in Yorkville. You can see the full list, which they’re constantly adding to, here.
Obviously blowouts aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but GlamLeague has been a serious game-changer for me. Since downloading the app, I’ve gotten about two blowouts a week, meaning I’ve completely forgotten how to wash my hair myself.
