Valentine’s Day is creeping up. Maybe that means nothing to you. Maybe something. Either way, consider it a soft launch back into dating (or your re-entry era).  Suddenly, you’re back in the group chat dissecting texts, overthinking emojis and mentally planning outfit options for a 90-minute coffee date.

There’s no shortage of things to think about while preparing for a first date, from outfit anxiety to pre-meet nerves (read: sweat). It’s totally normal to spiral a little—but remember, you can always count on the power of scent.

When it comes to first-date fragrances for women (and all the girlies, femmes and anyone who loves a great perfume), I’ve often found that, in big moments, a spritz of my favourite scent can make all the difference. I almost immediately feel more confident, more put together and more beautiful, which is exactly how I want to show up on a date. So scroll ahead for a list of fragrances we love (and would absolutely wear) for that super exciting first meeting. Best case? You find a new signature scent. And maybe a new person, too.

Henry Rose London 1983

Five of the Best Scents to Wear on a First Date

Wear this if you want to smell like you, but elevated.

Perfect for a low-key night in: cooking dinner together or watching them cook while you casually keep the wine flowing.

This is the ultimate “your skin, but hotter” scent. It opens with creamy fig and a crack of black pepper, giving it just enough edge, before drifting into soft water lily and jasmine for a clean, airy heart. As it settles, vetiver and smooth bourbon come through, adding warmth and depth without ever getting loud. The result is musky, intimate and sexy. It’s the kind of fragrance that doesn’t announce itself but absolutely gets noticed when someone leans in a little closer.

Byredo Vanille Antique Extrait de Parfum

Five of the Best Scents to Wear on a First Date

Wear this if you want to smell like freshly baked sweet treats—with grown-up energy.

Perfect for grabbing drinks at a cozy cafe where you’re inevitably sharing dessert.

Byredo’s Vanilla Antique opens with soft freesia and juicy plum before melting into amber and cashmere wood. It settles into a rich base of Madagascar vanilla and cistus oil, wrapping everything in a creamy, addictive warmth. Sweet but never juvenile, this is comfort-scent territory. Made for sliding into a booth, leaning in close and letting the night unfold.

Lancôme La Vie Est Belle Rose Extraordinaire

Five of the Best Scents to Wear on a First Date

Wear this if you want to smell like you just walked out of a flower shop with an armful of fresh blooms.

Perfect for dinner and a movie. Bonus points if it turns into dessert somewhere else.

This one’s for the flower lovers. Lancôme’s best-selling scent, reimagined by perfumer Catherine Krunas, is a luxe, modern bouquet built around iris and three expressions of rose: airy rose water, rich damascena absolute and a soft rose accord. The result is light, bright and beautifully balanced—fresh enough to feel effortless but with enough staying power to linger long after the credits roll. Romantic, without trying too hard.

Valentino Born in Roma Green Stravaganza

Five of the Best Scents to Wear on a First Date

Wear this if you want to smell like something sweet—with an edge.

Perfect for grabbing cocktails at a bougie bar where the lighting is low and the martinis are ice cold.

Valentino’s Green Stravaganza lives in that delicious in-between: sweet but musky, softly powdery and unapologetically indulgent. Hints of amber and vanilla give it warmth and depth, while its floral-oriental backbone keeps things luxe and elevated. It’s the kind of fragrance that adapts to the moment. Equal parts playful and polished—and leaves people leaning in a little closer for more.

Sidia Soaked Solid Perfume

Five of the Best Scents to Wear on a First Date

Wear this if you want to smell like you just took an everything shower…in the middle of the woods.

Perfect for a day date with an activity involved. Think axe throwing, bowling or anything that calls for sneakers over heels.

Sidia’s Soaked is the brand’s best-seller for a reason. Bright juniper and lemon open things up, cypress and cedarwood bring that clean forest air vibe and a base of leather and amber keeps it grounded and cozy. The result is ultra-fresh, relaxing and effortlessly cool—like bottled nature with a polished edge. Bonus: it comes in a travel-friendly solid, so you can toss it in your bag and reapply on the move. Low effort. High payoff.
