Everyone knows the importance of taking a deep breath. The act of intentionally inhaling and slowly exhaling has been proven to regulate the nervous system, promote a sense of calmness and even combat anxiety and depression. (Plus, you know, it keeps us alive.) But what does breathing do for our skin? Dior’s latest innovation tackles this very question.
Building on a 40-year legacy of skin science, the brand has reinvented its iconic Capture Totale line — now called Dior Capture. This new era finds Dior expanding into regenerative medicine, a science focused on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself. The first order of business? Oxygen. More specifically, Dior has found a link between aging and cellular respiration—a.k.a. breathing for your skin.
As oxygen enters the body, it undergoes a chemical reaction in the mitochondria to create energy. This energy helps white blood cells in the immune system produce proteins, stimulate collagen and kill unwanted cells that accelerate aging. But as you get older, the amount of energy produced in the mitochondria naturally slows, disrupting the respiratory process. (Think hyperventilating instead of breathing through the belly.) That’s why Dior has developed a technology — called OX-C (Oxygeno-Collagen) Treatment — that aims to optimize the effects of oxygen through a silky serum and a lightweight cream.
“It’s not a matter of how much oxygen you bring into the body,” explains Bruno Bavouzet, president of LVMH Recherche, adding that too much oxygen can be bad for your skin and oxidation of free radicals (including UV rays and polluted air) can actually enhance aging. “It’s about transportation—how to deliver oxygen to the cell in an efficient way.” Consider OX-C Treatment a system that extracts the benefits of the freshest air you breathe.
Dior found that, thanks to bioactives like lily extract, which reinforces stem cells, and procollagen dipeptide, which helps with collagen production, OX-C Treatment increases the activity of key white blood cells by 84 percent. Formulated in a two-step regimen, the energy-boosting offering keeps the complexion feeling healthy so you — and your skin — can breathe a little easier. If only mastering meditation were that simple.
