Dimitris Giannetos Talks Everything Celebrity Hair

Amal. Demi. Cindy. Gigi. How Dimitris became Hollywood’s singular hairstylist by putting in the work—and the energy.

Dimitris Giannetos is in a lounge somewhere in New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport when we connect on FaceTime. He’s on a layover before his flight to Milan, where, unbeknownst to me, he’s about to break the internet with the slick bob he gave Demi Moore for the Gucci Fall 2026 show (creative director Demna’s first runway collection) before flying back to L.A. to do her hair for The Actor Awards.

This is a man on the move—literally and figuratively. Giannetos, 42, has never been one to settle; he’s always challenging himself, pushing himself to do more. He’s been that way since he was a boy growing up in Thessaloniki, Greece, doing hair for his mother and sister but not knowing quite how to harness that gift. Until, that is, his therapist convinced him to take the leap and go to beauty school at age 15. “It was the best thing that happened,” he tells me. “I owe her my whole career—not only my career, my life.”

After 12 years, at the peak of his career in Athens, where he was working with celebrities and on high-profile magazine editorials, he took another leap and moved—first to New York and then to L.A. He spoke no English at the time. Greek-American TV presenter Maria Menounos was one of his first clients (they’d met earlier in Greece), and he eventually got an agent, later joining Guido Palau’s team. “I’m fearless as a person, which is a good and bad thing,” he laughs. “When I have something in mind and I see the potential, I’m never like, ‘I’m good here.’ I’m like, ‘What’s next?’ I want to go all in.”

Going all in sure paid off. Today, Giannetos works with the most glamorous leading women and men in Hollywood. His roster includes Demi, Kim Kardashian (“I admire her so much. She’s an actor, she’s a mom, she’s a businesswoman—she does it all,” he says), George and Amal Clooney, Cindy Crawford and Justin Bieber, to name a few.

I’m star-struck just listening to him list these names. I ask if he feels the same way. “That’s my routine, which I don’t take for granted,” he says. “I work hard, and I treat everyone the same. We’re all human. But I’m not going to take away how big these people are, how inspiring they are.”

Like his clients, Giannetos has undeniable star power, but it’s his warmth and energy that make you want to keep him on the phone long after he needs to go to the gate to catch his flight. It’s as enticing as his talent. His hair colour and cuts regularly go viral for both his technique and his ability to market it. Demi’s bob he dubbed the “Demi-tris bob,” Joey King’s big chop was the “Prada bob,” Amal’s glossy brown hair colour is “pecan pie.

But it’s Giannetos’ knack for pulling out the personality of his clients that makes him a true artist. “You have to see through the hair to the person the hair represents,” he says. Think Megan Fox’s 2024 “blue-jeans blue bob,” Kim’s Renaissance braids at the All’s FairLondon premiere and Gigi Hadid’s modern-boudoir curls for the 2025 Met Gala. “It’s like being an athlete,” he says. “You have to perform every day, you have to travel and you have to be on top of your game. There is no room for mistakes.”

A trained makeup artist, Giannetos has been quietly doing some of his A-list clients’ glam for years and this past January made his public debut doing Amal’s makeup as well as hair for the Golden Globes. If he wanted to, he could probably add stylist to his resumé, too. If you’re one of his 1.8 million Instagram followers, you’ll know that Giannetos loves fashion as much as he loves hair and makeup.

His personal style is the stuff of monochromatic, tailored dreams—with a ’50s flair. (Think Marlon Brando meets Christian from Clueless.) His favourites? Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and Bottega Veneta. In fact, Giannetos first caught the fashion bug working backstage at fashion week. “When I was an assistant to Guido Palau, I touched a bag backstage at Bottega Veneta—I got butterflies in my stomach,” he recalls. Like his career, his style is continually evolving. “I’m always open to trying new things. I’m always wanting to learn about what fits my personality, what fits my body and how I can do better.”

In the age of celebrity beauty brands, the inevitable question every hairstylist gets is whether they plan to create their own line. Giannetos doesn’t hesitate. “One hundred percent,” he says. “I want to pass on my knowledge. Life is so stressful, and everybody talks about hair loss and wanting their hair to be fuller and healthier...so it will be more in that direction.” But before that, perhaps a vacation? Some well-deserved downtime before the Met Gala? “Yes, I’m trying to take one or two days,” he laughs. Then it’s on the road again—and he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I love it—I love travelling. This gives me life, gives me inspiration.”
