We’re smack in the middle of the lazy, hazy days of summer and, if you’re anything like us, heat and humidity equal doing as little as possible when it comes to hair and makeup. Which makes it the perfect time to mix things up with a new hair colour—aside from an afternoon spent at the salon (or at the hands of a trusted friend) a new shade is the easiest way to refresh your otherwise low-maintenance look.

In order to inspire a change, we’re taking a look back at some of the best celebrity dye jobs from the past few months. While a number of these looks were all part of the day’s work—like Jennifer Lawrence ditching her Katniss hair colour for honey blonde or Emma Stone returning to her (faux) red roots—other dye jobs seemed to signal a change in personality. There is no doubt, after all, that a new hair colour can make you feel like a new person. (At least, that’s what Miley Cyrus keeps telling us!)

Proving hair colour does indeed transform, Little Miss Sunshine star Abigail Breslin made headlines this weekend thanks to her new platinum-blonde hair. Styled in a bouffant with curly hair flowing down to her shoulders, it’s certainly a grown-up look: platinum is a statement-making colour and quite the change from Breslin’s usual light-brown hair.
