American Music Awards 2015: The best beauty looks on the red carpet

Over the course of the year (and 2015’s award shows), we’ve gathered that simple makeup has been stealing the show. And a chill take on makeup still prevailed at last night’s 2015 American Music Awards. However there was a major emphasis on hair. Case in point: Gigi Hadid‘s slicked-back bob, reminiscent of mom Yolanda Foster’s look, which had us wondering whether the model had actually had her ends chopped. Today, we learned that the look was a result of a sleight of hand—hairstylist Bryce Scarlett concealed Hadid’s wavy strands with a half-wig that created the illusion of a bob. Clever. In true BFF fashion, Kendall Jenner, also debuted a new hairstyle, sporting—wait for it—BANGS. And Kris Jenner-like wisps no less, because everyone’s hair inspo should be their mother. Ariana Grande also surprised us by trading in her high-pony for a messy top-knot.
On the makeup front, nudes lips were a trend, with Kylie Jenner leading the way (duh), and actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld following suit. Selena Gomez amped up her natural pout with a smokey burgundy eye that matched her Givenchy gown. Zendaya strayed from the nude lip game, and instead painted on a matte bubble-gum hue, and paired it with groomed brows and dewy skin, which she allegedly did herself. Never one to follow a crowd, Demi Lovato challenged her contemporaries with a vampy lip and retro finger waves.
