Afternoon beauty fix: Your best bets for amplifying lashes without falsies

Forget false lashes—what are my best bets for amplifying minimal eyelashes with mascara? With baby doll lashes being a notable trend from the Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and Viktor & Rolf Spring 2012 runway shows, your efforts will not only amend your lack of buxom lashes, but also get you on-trend faster than you can say, “Is the glue dry yet?”

While Viktor & Rolf opted for unrestrained fluorescent falsies, Marc Jacobs went for short, heavy lashes that are more manageable (and easy!) to recreate with a hearty lash accelerator and not a hint of adhesive. Urban Decay Cannonball mascara ($20, urbandecay.com) has a waxy formula that builds upon itself to plump up lashes at the base and extend them beyond their natural length. Both Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara ($10 at drug stores) and L’Oréal Paris Double Extend Lash Boosting mascara ($14 at drug stores) have a protein-rich composition to boost the appearance of your lashes, both immediately and over time. The result? A more realistic version of “fake” with little-to-no technical skill required.
