Afternoon beauty fix: The trick to matching foundation to fair skin

I have extremely fair skin and I find that foundations always look orange. How can I get a better match?
Fair skin can be the toughest to find a makeup match for—mostly because many are not quite pink enough and overload on orange tones, but also because alabaster skin can be temperamental. Pale complexions are extra sensitive to the sun, so you should consider using a prep product with superior protection before you apply foundation. A product like CoverFX Brite Prep FX SPF 50 ($35 at Shoppers Drug Mart) is great, and will create a smooth surface for the rest of your makeup. Maybelline Fit Me foundation ($10 at drugstores) has SPF 18 and is water based to suit dry and sensitive skin. The best part? It comes in shades that are profoundly light—most notably “Porcelain 110.” It’s also normal for ivory skin to suffer from slight pigmentation through the cheek area and areas surrounding the eyes and nose, so foundations like Clinique Supermoisture makeup in “Ivory” ($27, clinique.com)
will flatter handsomely with its neutralizing pink base and fair, dewy finish.
