Afternoon beauty fix: Get in control of your curls and say goodbye to winter frizz!

I’ve got curly hair and have a hard time controlling its frizz in the winter. What can I do to keep my curls looking defined and smooth instead of frizzy and unkempt?
The reason you may find curls even more difficult to control in the winter is because there’s reduced moisture in the air—moisture is the solution to bouncy curls, and without it your hair may look frizzier than you’re willing to tolerate. Also, take a look at your shampoo. If it isn’t sulphate-free, it should be! Sulphates strip hair of its natural oils and once you take those away your hair is likely to react with split ends and uncooperative curls. Try a shampoo that’s specifically meant to control frizz and touts a sulphate-free formula like Marc Anthony Advanced Colour Protect Anti-Aging shampoo ($13, at drugstores). It has antioxidants and avocado oil to maximize moisture without leaving a heavy residue behind. It’d be even better if you could refrain from showering on a regular basis, because the heat and humidity extract loads of moisture from you hair. Get a shower cap and try a dry shampoo to extend your time between washing your hair. LaCoupe Curl Refresh dry shampoo ($8, at drugstores) is specially formulated for curly hair and uses silk proteins to combat frizz while smelling baby-powder sweet.
