It may sound like yet another beauty export from the land of all things chic, but the French manicure didn’t actually come from France at all. First dreamed up in the mid-‘70s by Orly founder Jeff Pink, this neutral look, with its clean lines and versatile palette, was actually tailor-made for Hollywood, and quickly became a staple. As decades passed, that staple grew stale and dated. But this classic look, with its Parisian-sounding name, is making a comeback in 2019—but, like most things being reinvented today, with some notable tweaks.
