The One Product Vanessa Hudgens Swears by to Combat Dry, Dull Skin

Vanessa Hudgens is a busy lady lately. Along with judging season 14 of So You Think You Can Dance, the High School Musical alum is playing ambassador to a number of fashion and beauty brands, including Kiehl’s. The partnership with the skincare brand makes sense — one look at Hudgens’ Instagram and you can tell she’s a lover of nature and the great outdoors (a necessity for the Queen of Coachella), so naturally, she leans towards skincare products with natural ingredients.

FASHION caught up with Hudgens to talk about her collaboration with Kiehl’s, her fave beauty products and how she maintains a healthy lifestyle with her busy schedule.

Name three Kiehl’s products on your top shelf.
The Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque, Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, and Midnight Recovery Concentrate. The masque is great because when I’m working my skin gets tired from the long hours and wearing makeup. I use it three times a week and it keeps my skin moisturized and refreshed.

Can you take us through your typical morning beauty routine? How does it differ from your night routine?
I wash with the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash, tone and moisturize in the morning. And at night I wash, tone, use an eye cream and use the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I wake up and my skin is ready for the day ahead.

What is your first beauty memory?
When I was around four or five, I would raid my mom’s Mary Kay makeup kit. I think she was selling them but had a sample kit with every colour imaginable. I would sit in her closet and play with the makeup for what seemed like hours.

What’s the best beauty advice/tip you ever received and from whom?
Maybe just drink a ton of water. From my makeup artist Karen Mitchell, skin is the foundation and being hydrated makes a massive change in skin health.

Do you have any bad beauty habits you would like to break this year?
I feel like I’ve got it pretty together when it comes to that department.

How do you prep or take care of your skin before an upcoming big red carpet event? Do you have any post-event beauty rituals as well?
I love getting a red and blue combination light. I feel like, after it’s done, my skin glows.

Who would you say is your beauty icon?
Maybe Brigitte Bardot. I definitely love mixing it up but she is so classic and sexy.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Wash your face every day! I was so bad at washing my face growing up and now I can’t imagine not taking care of my skin.

Having great skin also has to do with a healthy lifestyle, which clearly you have, judging from your Instagram. How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle with such a busy life?
It’s hard for sure. But sleeping early and waking up early helps a ton. I feel like the only way to get everything done is getting extra time and, waking up with the sun gives me that. I’m very picky about what I eat and I make sure what I’m eating gives me fuel for the day. Overall, I just try to take care of myself.
