A French Fashion Label is Showing People How to Make DIY Face Masks at Home

In order to save the medical masks for the professionals during this health crisis.

It will come as no surprise to anyone watching the news to hear that surgical/face masks are in high demand right now. Panic buying at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic by concerned citizens has led to a shortage in many countries around the world – leaving people like doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers on the front line without basic, essential supplies.

In the past week, many have stepped up to the plate to help alleviate this shortage. Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss announced he was a holding a medical supplies drive at Pyer Moss HQ and the producer of Grey’s Anatomy announced they were shipping all unused medical supplies from set to hospitals in Los Angeles. Now, over the weekend, French fashion brand Coperni has released a very easy-to-follow tutorial showing people how to make their own face masks at home if they feel inclined to wear one.

Co-founders Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant released a free sewing pattern on their Instagram, in addition to printable instructions (in French) and the pattern on their website, according to CR Fashion Book

Vaillant took to his own personal Instagram to encourage people to “leave masks for hospitals and #makeyourownmask.” He added, “There is a huge lack of masks in France since last crisis and hospitals desperately need them. It takes 15 mins to make your own and let them use the most professional ones.”
