Back in September, Olivia Palermo announced that she was launching her own e-commerce platform featuring a curated selection of luxury items. At the time, the former reality TV star also hinted at the possible launch of her own eponymous line - and now, that line is indeed in the works.
As reported by WWD today, Palermo is launching the Olivia Palermo Collection next year.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a few years and taking the time to build out an in-house team to do it properly,” Palermo told the site. “It was important to go through all the archives, figure out the materials we like and have a clear vision of what the collections are going to be. It’s tailored, polished, it’s very much my aesthetic. They’re timeless pieces, pieces you can wear throughout the year and have as a statement piece, but also mix and match within one’s wardrobe.”
The collection will include 52 items, including leather pieces (a favourite of hers) and silk blouses. New items will drop every six to eight weeks, and in addition to effortlessly slotting into your existing wardrobe, all pieces are designed to be able to be worn with one another, too. Sketches shared with WWD show a chic geometric printed dress, as well as tweed tailored suiting and a crisp white shirt.
The inspiration for the pieces comes from Palermo’s own style, as well as the women she meets and sees whilst travelling. “I get inspiration throughout my travels constantly. I’m always inspired by women on the street worldwide, seeing women in fashion, not in fashion, how they put themselves together, how excited they are about their outfits. That’s where our inspiration came from.”
It’s not the first time Palermo has turned her to design – quite the opposite in fact. The street style favourite has previously designed collections for Banana Republic, Nordstrom and Karl Lagerfeld. All of this has been her education, she says. “I’ve been fortunate for the last decade to work on various collaborations and learn the ins and outs. Also, from modelling and production and figuring out a great strategy for our own brand, [I have taken] the last few years and homed in on what that is.”
Interestingly, the collection will launch without accessories, however Palermo hinted that a line may follow at a later date. In September, Palermo said that launching her e-commerce platform solely with accessories “make the most sense, as that’s something that’s always resonated with me.”
The Olivia Palermo Collection will be available on Oliviapalermo.com as well as via Saks Fifth Avenue from February 2020.
