5 Trends We Spotted on the Runways of New York Fashion Week

Regardless of the Farmer’s Almanac forecast for next winter, the New York designers have vowed to keep us warm in #OTT fall fashion. Timing couldn’t have been more spot on with frigid temps and a massive storm hitting New York just in time for Fashion Month’s official kickoff. And it seems the fashion world is finally ready to tackle our winter wardrobes (we’re so over tissue paper-like layers and exposed ankles) and cold climate must-haves like the parka. Several designers showed their own renditions of the an anything-but-traditional winter coat.

Keeping us warm was only part of the fall 2017 message in New York. Power and pride seemed to be another underlying theme this week. For example, designers reworked the classic suit in menswear-inspired prints for a look that is all “she-E-O”.

Other major trends included stand out silver and luxurious velvet, most notably in rich jewel tones. Bright, saturated colours like scarlet, have us feeling optimistic for a season that has some sass. With the world at large in flux, fashion is bringing it’s A-game to inspire and empower.

Take note, these are the trends you’ll want to adopt for a stellar season ahead.
